Hybrid class, November 9 to 20. Eight days live online with your RN, then two days of hands-on skills in person. Taught live by a New Jersey-licensed RN, never a recorded video.
Caring for your own parent, child, or spouse? New Jersey is opening a path for family members to be hired and paid as certified home health aides for a relative on Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare, through a licensed agency. The one requirement is the CHHA. This is that class. How it works
Ten days, 76 hours total: 60 hours live online and 16 hours of hands-on skills in person. Attendance at every session is required to receive your certificate of completion.
The course follows New Jersey’s homemaker-home health aide curriculum: 60 hours of live instruction with your RN, then 16 hours of supervised, hands-on skills practice where every technique is checked off before you graduate.
Today, a New Jersey Medicaid member can hire a relative as a personal care assistant through the state’s Personal Preference Program. No certification is required, and that is how most families get paid right now.
A second path is opening. In October 2025 the New Jersey Board of Nursing proposed rules that let a family member become a certified home health aide for a relative on Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare and work for that relative through a licensed private duty nursing agency, with the agency paying the cost of certification. A bill moving through the Legislature does the same and sets a higher pay rate for the work. Neither is final yet. Both require one thing of the family member: the CHHA. That is what this class gives you.
Not sure which path fits, or how the pay actually works? Our sister company, Luman Group, publishes the Family Caregiver Hire-in-a-Box, a plain-language New Jersey kit with the program guidance, forms, call scripts, and payroll basics, plus a free five-question options finder you can use before buying anything. Or email questions@apex1consulting.com and we’ll tell you whether an agency may cover your tuition.
No. This course is built for people starting out in caregiving, and for family members who want to be certified to care for their own relative.
All 76 hours: 60 live online with your RN, 16 hands-on in person, your skills check-off, and your certificate of completion. The New Jersey Board of Nursing’s certification application and fingerprint background check are paid to the state separately when you apply for your certification.
Yes. Pay in full by card, or split your tuition into payments with Klarna or Afterpay at checkout.
All 76 hours are required to receive your certificate of completion, so plan to attend every session. If something comes up, contact us right away.
Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, at our New Jersey skills site. The address, parking, and what to wear are in your welcome packet.
Your certificate of completion and your CHHA certification are issued in New Jersey. The 76-hour program exceeds the federal 75-hour Medicare home health aide training standard, which is what other states look at when they consider reciprocity, but each state decides for itself. Email us if you plan to work elsewhere and we’ll tell you what applies.
Not today. Through New Jersey’s Personal Preference Program, a Medicaid member can hire a relative as a personal care assistant without certification. The CHHA is required when you’ll be employed by a licensed home care or private duty nursing agency, including under the family-caregiver pathway the state is finalizing. The Family Caregiver Hire-in-a-Box from Luman Group walks through every option for New Jersey, or email us and we’ll tell you which applies to you.
Yes. Agencies can reserve seats for aides they’re hiring or for family caregivers they’ll employ, and pay in one checkout. Email questions@apex1consulting.com for group pricing, or see our Employers page.
If we can’t deliver the November 9 class as described on this page, you receive a full refund of your tuition.
